What You Will Study
This course offers an exciting and ideal starting point if you want to pursue a career in media. It will give you all the skills you need to progress onto the Level 3 course in Media Production and beyond.
Throughout this course you will work in groups and individually to produce several different projects, and will be encouraged to develop critical thinking and self-evaluation skills. You will learn how to use a video camera, editing software and audio equipment and will also learn about different media audiences and media products, how research helps create brilliant media, how to get a job in media, and why planning is crucial. You will hear from industry experts and engage in a wide variety of fun enrichment activities. Your final project will be individual, self-directed and must be green lit by the course team.
As a partner organisation with Creative England’s Filming in England Partnership, our students benefit from stronger links between education and the screen industries. This partnership gives our students access to industry insight, professional talks, sector updates, networking opportunities and the chance to register on a national crew directory for potential work opportunities in film and television production. It also helps ensure our curriculum remains connected to current industry practice and emerging opportunities in the creative sector.

Entry Requirements
- Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English language.
How You Will Be Assessed
This course is assessed through a series of projects that are designed to broaden your skills, experience and expertise. The projects are multi-disciplinary and require you to work collaboratively and pro-actively with fellow students as well as external clients and stakeholders. All projects must be passed before undertaking a final major project, which decides your overall grade for the year - this is graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Course Progression
Upon successful completion of this course, with the addition of achieving GCSE English language at grade 4 and a satisfactory reference from the course leader, you may progress onto the Level 3 course.
You may also wish to apply for alternative Level 3 courses that may better suit your career aims, such as: Art and Design, Music, Fashion Communication, Photography, Digital Art and Illustration, Games Design or Production Arts.

City College Norwich also has an outstanding Apprenticeship Team who can provide advice and guidance for students wishing to follow this route into the industry.
For those students who choose not to pursue careers within the creative industries, the course still provides fantastic opportunities to develop collaborative working skills, problem-solving, creative and evaluative skills demanded by universities and employers.
