What You Will Study

This exciting course offers an ideal starting point if you want to pursue a career in games design, digital arts, animation, VFX, art and design, or 3D modelling.

It will give you all the skills you need to progress onto our Game Design and Development Level 3 course, Digital Art and Animation Level 3, and more. The course will focus on both practical and theory aspects of games design.

The course offers the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential to be successful in the creative digital industries. The course is made up of eight units, all of which must be studied and passed.

You will work towards the University of the Arts London (UAL) Games Design Diploma Level 2 during one year of study.

The units are assessed across four coursework projects:

  • Digital skills
  • Board game design
  • Game development
  • Final major project.

In addition to your main programme, you will also study maths and English language. Depending on your grades at entry, you will either study Functional Skills or GCSE.

Entry Requirements

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English language and maths.

How You Will Be Assessed

This course is assessed through a series of projects that are designed to broaden your skills, experience and expertise. The projects are multi-disciplinary and require you to work collaboratively and pro-actively with fellow students as well as external clients and stakeholders. A final end point assessment (commonly referred to as the final major project) decides your overall grade for the year - graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Course Progression

Upon successful completion of this course, in addition to a grade 4 or above in GCSE English language, you could progress onto Games Design and Development Level 3. You could also apply for alternative Level 3 courses within the department that may better suit your career aims, such as Art and Design, Creative Media, Photography, Music, Digital Art and Illustration, Spatial Design and Production Arts.
