Summary
Students work towards the University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts. The course is broad and expansive with students studying and developing the following skills: Acting, Dance, Musical Theatre, Music Production, Production Arts and Technical Theatre. This course is an outstanding foundation for Level 3 study within the department. Students will receive a thorough grounding in the key aspects of Performing and Production Arts and and will participate in public performances throughout the year in our 160 seat Platform Theatre.
Key tasks during the course include: Learning lines and rehearsing. Researching or undertaking activities to help prepare for a part. Discussing interpretation and delivery with other members of the company and the director. Performing for a live audience. Music composition (using Abelton software) Live and studio-based music recording. Managing the day-to-day running of the theatre, including “front of house” duties. Students will need to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment and also be able to attend rehearsals and performances, some of which will be during the evening.

Entry Requirements
We want this course to be a foundation for higher level study within the department. We do expect you to have engaged with and completed a range of GCSE subjects, including English and maths. We welcome home schooled students, and we are always happy to discuss your qualifications and predicted grades at interview to ensure you find the right course. Students will audition and be interviewed prior to selection.
Learning Outcomes
The course has been designed to incorporate a strong element of collaborative and vocational learning to provide students with the understanding, knowledge and skills identified as necessary for future progression and employment, underpinned by the broad transferrable skills that will enable students to demonstrate qualities of adaptability, self-reliance, collaboration, dependability, imagination, and creativity. The course is a one year foundation to support moving onto one of our Level 3 Extended Diploma courses: Acting (Stage and Screen), Dance, Music, Musical Theatre, Performing Arts, Production Arts.
Objective
The course will provide students with an introduction to performance, production, and design for the performing arts, enabling them to both reengage with education and acquire the requisite skills, knowledge and understanding to progress to further education and employment within the performing arts industry. Students will also have the opportunity to re-sit GCSE English and/or maths if they are yet to achieve their Grade 4.
Assessment
Assessment is on-going throughout the course and requires students to complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. Assessment activities that students may undertake include participating in practical workshops, rehearsals, performances, coursework, research, keeping journals, writing essays, giving presentations, discussing and evaluating work.
Progression
After successfully completing this course students will progress onto a full time UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma programme in one of the five pathways of Acting, Performance, Dance, Music, Musical Theatre or Production Arts.
Career Progression
Performing and Production Arts develops the skills and attributes highly prized by employers: Collaborative Working. Creative Problem-Solving. Events Management. Presentation skills. Ability to synthesise information from multiple sources. Performing and Production Arts students commonly get the following jobs: Events Manager, Front of House, Performer, Dancers and Choreographer, Set Designer, Studio Technician, Festival Director, Lighting and Sound Technician
