Summary

Academic Progression Humanities is one of the Academic Progression GCSE pathways. It is an intensive one-year, full time, GCSE programme of study aimed at students who need to improve their GCSEs in order to progress onto their next programme of study. Students are supported and challenged by highly qualified teaching staff to attain good grades.
Students select three GCSEs to study from the following subjects currently on offer for this course:
English
Maths
Psychology
History
Sociology
Citizenship Studies
Biology
Chemistry
Please note that any students who have not already achieved a grade 4 in English and/or Maths will have to choose these subjects as part of their three GCSE selection.
Students also take part in a mandatory programme of Enrichment. This programme aims to enable students to develop essential student and life skills such as time management, revision skills, independent study skills, personal development, experience of work and exploration of future career paths/progression routes.

Entry Requirements

3 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including English and Maths.
You will need to demonstrate a commitment to classroom-based academic study and be willing to undertake independent study outside of the classroom.
Applicants who have never taken GCSEs before will undertake an assessment at interview where they will need to demonstrate that they are working at Level 1 or above for both Maths and English.
Suitability for the course will be assessed at interview through discussion and activities.

Assessment

All GCSE subjects available have end of year examinations. The number of exam papers taken may differ depending on the subjects chosen.

Progression

Upon successful completion of the course students may progress onto Level 3 courses such as A'Levels or vocational Level 3 courses, Apprenticeships or Level 2 vocational courses (subject to meeting the entry requirements for the course chosen). Students who are nineteen before the next academic year may progress onto one of the Access to HE level 3 courses offered by our college (subject to meeting the entry requirements for the course chosen).

Career Progression

Good GCSE grades are essential for progression onto competitive Higher Education courses and associated careers.

Fees

If you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 years and over please contact the Advice Shop There will be costs for equipment, uniform and trips. These include costs for text books, stationery and subject relevant materials. Trips can be organised as part of the for study and enrichment purposes which will be subject to cost. For example a trip to see a show at Theatre Royal for GCSE Drama the students will be expected to pay the price of the ticket. Compulsory visits are announced with enough notice to help secure any additional finance needs as required.
