Course for school-leavers: Diploma in Uniformed Services

If you're thinking about your next steps after leaving school and you're considering a career in a uniformed service our Public Services diploma could be the right course for you. You will gain an insight into the various careers within the public services, what they involve and the personal qualities you'll need. In recent years the course has included:

  • Visit to the courts, prison and Norfolk Constabulary in Wymondham
  • Speakers from probation teams, prison service, UK Immigration
  • Major incident planning with Norfolk Resilience Forum
  • Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and Norfolk Constabulary hosting a variety of activities

With the rise of cyber-crime and similar emerging threats, the nature of modern policing is changing – degree level qualifications have become an essential part of police recruitment and training for new officers.

Our BA (Hons) in Professional Policing course is licensed by the College of Policing and aligned to the National Policing Curriculum that will allow you to develop a strong grounding in the theory and practical skills you need to start a police career.

Our College has a long-standing partnership with Norfolk Constabulary which means our new police courses have been specifically designed to their needs for police recruitment and training .

Our courses run at Easton College, part of City College Norwich, and students also train at Norfolk Constabulary’s training centre in Hethersett.

Our courses are an excellent introduction to policing but starting your police career is dependent on successfully passing a selection and recruitment process. Our experienced teaching team provide excellent support for our students as they apply for Special Constable and full-time officer roles and we also deliver extra-curricular fitness classes to help pass the fitness entry requirements.

Financial Support Options

There are a number of financial support options available depending on your individual circumstances.

Access to Higher Education: Criminal Justice and Policing

Financial support available includes:

  • course fee loans,
  • council tax reduction and
  • bursaries for travel and childcare.

In some cases, you may not need to pay courses fees and your fee may be written off if you progress on to the degree level course.

BA (Hons) in Professional Policing

Financial support available includes:

  • tuition fee loan from Student Finance England to cover course fees*,  
  • maintenance loan to help with living costs up to £9400 per year
  • council tax reduction and
  • Parent Learning Allowance or Childcare Grant if you have dependent children.

* Student loans do not have to be paid back until after you complete or leave your course and you are earning at least £27,000.

The Diploma in Public Services courses are for school-leavers: if you are under 19 on the 31st August prior to the start of your course, then your tuition and registration fees will normally be free.
