Summary

Bricklaying is one of the traditional trades both in the UK and around the world. This course builds on skills learnt on Level 1 allowing you become more skilled to build, repair and maintain the country's housing stock. You could either progress onto an apprenticeship or employment to work towards becoming a master craftsman. In the East of England, the construction industry is predicted to grow by 14% offering a good range of opportunities across the whole industry and bricklaying in particular is a skill that companies have reported a shortage of . On this course you will cover the following skills; Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures Producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures Good English and Maths skills are essential for most jobs and courses you will progress onto. The Government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills and your course programme will reflect this key aim. Depending on your grades when you start your course, you could either study Functional Skills or GCSEs alongside the other parts of your course programme. Entry Requirements

Successful completion of the Bricklaying Diploma Level 1 with a good attendance and behaviour record and reference from the course leader. (Progression course only)

Assessment

Assessment takes a variety of forms including multiple choice tests and practical assignments.

Progression

Students can move on to look for an apprenticeship to study towards the NVQ Level 2 in Trowel Occupations.

Career Progression

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress on to an apprenticeship.

Fees
