What You Will Study

Bricklaying is one of the traditional trades both in the UK and around the world. This course builds on skills learnt on Level 1, allowing you become more skilled to build, repair and maintain the country's housing stock.

In the East of England, the construction industry is predicted to grow by offering a good range of opportunities across the whole industry, and bricklaying in particular is a skill that companies have reported a shortage of.

On this course you will cover the following skills:

  • Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures
  • Health and safety in construction
  • Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
  • Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures

Good English and maths skills are essential for most jobs and courses you will progress onto. The Government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills and your course programme will reflect this key aim. Depending on your grades when you start your course, you could either study Functional Skills or GCSEs alongside the other parts of your course programme. Please check our English and maths page for further information.
