What You Will Study

Academic Progression Insight is a one-year, full-time programme of study. Our friendly and supportive staff will help you build and develop the skills and knowledge you need to gain maths and English qualifications, plus other subjects if appropriate.

This course is aimed at students who have specific health needs/barriers to learning, which may have affected attendance and achievement at school. This course is ideal for you if you have finished year 11 without the GCSE results you hoped for, have not taken GCSEs before, or need further support to be able to progress to the next level of study.

The programme of study includes a range of academic subjects, such as:

  • English language
  • Maths
  • Psychology
  • Science (as individual subjects)
  • Citizenship Studies
  • History
  • Sociology
  • Art
  • Food preparation and nutrition

Your full-time course will be based around seven lessons per week and will contain two GCSE subjects. In addition to the GCSE learning that you study on Insight, there will be a focus on wellbeing support (where required), alongside tutor 'group lessons', which will enable you to develop some of the skills necessary to become a more efficient and effective student; including trips and visits; visiting speakers; personal development; study skills and the opportunity to explore your chosen progression routes for the following academic year.

You will need to demonstrate a commitment to classroom-based academic study and be willing to undertake independent study outside of the classroom.

If you are not/have not studied formal English or maths qualifications, you will undertake an assessment at interview where you need to demonstrate that you are working at grade 3 or above for both subjects. Suitability for the course will also be assessed at interview through discussion.
