What You Will Study

The Step into College course is a great option for those who don't have formal qualifications or haven't followed a traditional educational path who are interested in the Health and Social Care sector.

You don't need any specific qualifications to apply, and applications are based on an informal discussion at interview. This course is ideal for students with barriers to learning due to the nurturing learning environment to help eliminate and support those barriers.

This course combines a basic introduction to health and social care where you will study Level 1 award in Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings, along with essential employability skills, English and maths.

Entry Requirements

No specific GCSE entry qualifications are required, but you must successfully complete and submit your enrolment task as directed.

How You Will Be Assessed

This course has a mixture of course work and practical skills required to gain an understanding of the health and social care sector. You will also acquire practical skills to enhance your performance in the workplace.

Everything for the course is assessed through coursework, there are no formal examinations. However, if you are taking English or maths as part of your programme of study, there will be exams for those.

You will be awarded a pass or a referral grade on each unit/project. You will need to pass all units in order to achieve the qualification. Some units/projects will have set deadlines and there will be sufficient time to complete all the work in class.

Course Progression

A pass on this course as well as a good reference from your course leader will enable you to progress onto a Level 1 course at college. Most students progress to either Level 1 Health and Social Care or Level 1 Caring for Children.

Where Your Course Can Take You

This course will help you build the skills that are in demand for entry-level jobs in health and social care. It will boost your confidence for teamwork, and many students transition to Level 1 courses at the college. Alternatively, we can provide advice and guidance if you are interested in following an Apprenticeship route.

Fees

If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over fees may be payable.
