Among the Apprenticeship Awards winners was George Hocking, who is nearing the end of a Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship (Level 4) with Global Chair Components. George said:
I didn't want to stay in full-time education and so I thought the apprenticeship was a natural route. I was quite interested in accountancy, so I applied for this one and got it and have been happy with it ever since.
I've done 14 exams so far. I've got one left to do and then I'll be done. I’ve gone from being pretty much a data processor when I first started to being a proper member of the accounts department throughout those three and a half years. I'm happy with my progress so far in my career.”

Agriculture apprentice Aiden Lake, who works for Greenlane Pigs, was also drawn to a work-based training route, saying:
I struggled in high school because I'm not really academically-minded, I'm more sort of practical. I thought that an apprenticeship was the way I had to go in order to be able to progress within the family business.
I’ve found it very interesting. I’ve learned a lot of new stuff about not just pigs, but about arable and sheep. I've met loads of different people. It's been one of the best couple of years of my life.”

Caron Goreham, City College Norwich’s Head of Apprenticeships, said:
We’ve got some very talented young people in Norfolk. They're filling critical skills gaps across the county and most of them are young people at the start of their careers which makes those achievements even more significant. Congratulations to all our apprenticeship award winners.”
The Apprenticeship Awards were hosted in the Debut Restaurant at City College Norwich.
