What You Will Study
Introduction to Painting offers a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of painting, with a focus on acrylic, oil and watercolour paints. Through this course you will learn the essentials of Colour Theory, Paint Handling, Image Composition and Surface Preparation through a series of exciting discussions and practical workshops. This course will culminate in a two-week personal project where you will (with professional guidance) create your very own masterpieces. From initial conception through to finishing stages, these painting classes are a must for anyone who wants to develop their confidence with painting.
Week 1- Introduction to media - Week one introduces the three most popular paints, acrylic, oils and watercolours. There will be opportunities to explore and experiment with each, allowing participants to find their favourite.
Week 2- Preparing for success - A hands on workshop session exploring surface preparation prior to painting. How to gesso/prime a canvas, how to prepare own watercolour paper. How to prepare an underpainting.
Week 3. Colour Theory - A brief introductory talk followed by an hands on workshop exploring the basics of colour theory. You will discover the fundamentals of colour theory and mix their own paints to create a colour wheel.
Week 4. Paint handling/mark making - Learning how to achieve desired visual effects with paint and getting used to drawing with paint. Exploring different visual techniques and theories.
Week 5. Personal project - Participants will begin their own personal masterpiece, based on their own ideas/interests and using their preferred media.
Week 6. Personal project.
The course will run from 6pm to 8.30pm.
Please note that courses may be cancelled if minimum numbers are not met. Please be aware that if you are no longer able to attend your course you will be offered an alternative date where possible, however no refunds are available unless this course is cancelled by City College Norwich.
