What You Will Study
The AQA GCSE English Language course develops your ability to read, analyse and respond to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts, while building confident and effective communication skills.
You will learn to interpret explicit and implicit meanings, analyse writers’ use of language and structure, compare viewpoints across texts, and evaluate ideas critically. Alongside this, you will develop your own writing for a variety of purposes and audiences, including creative and transactional forms such as narratives, speeches and articles, with a strong focus on organisation, vocabulary choice, and technical accuracy in spelling, punctuation and grammar. The course also includes a spoken language component, where you will present and respond to questions, helping you to become articulate and confident communicators equipped with essential literacy and critical thinking skills for further study and employment.
This is an intensive course of study and attendance at teaching sessions is vital for a successful outcome, as is completion of homework and independent study. There is one three-hour face-to-face lesson delivered a week, with an additional two hours of independent study and homework per week.
Entry Requirements
Initial assessments: one online and one written.
How You Will Be Assessed
You will sit two exams which are nationally set and externally assessed at the end of the course in May/June.

Course Progression
You may go on to one of the Access to HE courses at CCN or many university courses which require GCSE English at C/4 grade. Many vocational courses also have this requirement.
