What You Will Study

This course is perfect for those who have never used a sewing machine before, are a returning sewer that needs a refresher, or if you have a machine that you aren’t confident using.

This is a step-by-step course to show you the basics you need to know how to become sewing machine confident. With a mixture of hand and machine work, you will have a variety of projects to showcase the skills you will learn on the course. We will include all the machines, sewing tools, threads and any trims or fastening for you to complete the course.

By the end of the course, you will have the chance to make and take home the following:

  • Flat pencil case or boxy pencil case
  • Envelope cushion
  • Reversible bag or bunting

Throughout the course you will learn the following:

  • Getting to know your sewing machine
  • Fabric construction and joining methods
  • Hand sewing
  • Finishing samples
  • Cushion construction
  • Advanced sewing skills
  • Bunting or bag cutting and preparation
  • Bunting or bag construction

You will need to bring with you: (please do not buy any fabric before the start of the courses)

  • To make a cushion you will need 1/2mtr of fabric minimum of 110cm in width (cotton/cotton drill/denim/upholstery fabric) and 1x cushion pad 42cm or smaller)
  • Fabric for bunting or bag project
  • Notepad and pen for jotting down ideas and measurements
  • Sewing kit if you have one

This course will run from 16th September to 11th November (excluding 28th October).

The course runs from 6pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday evenings for eight weeks. Please do not buy any fabric until the start of your course.
