Beginners Machine Sewing Skills - £165

What You Will Study

This course is aimed at those who have never used a sewing machine before, are a returning sewer that needs a re-fresher, or if you have a machine that you are not confident using.

This is a step-by-step course to show you the basics you need to know how to become sewing machine confident. With a mixture of hand and machine work, you will have a variety of projects to showcase the skills you will learn on the course.

We will include all the machines, sewing tools, threads and any trims or fastening for you to complete the course.

By the end of the course, you will have the chance to make and take home the following:

• Flat pencil case or boxy pencil case
• Envelope cushion
• Reversible bag or bunting

Throughout the course you will learn the following:

• Getting to know your sewing machine
• Fabric construction and joining methods
• Hand sewing
• Finishing samples
• Cushion construction
• Advanced sewing skills
• Bunting or bag cutting and preparation
• Bunting or bag construction

You will need to bring with you: (please do not buy any fabric before the start of the course)

• To make a cushion you will need 1/2mtr of fabric minimum of 110cm in width (cotton/cotton drill/denim/upholstery fabric) and 1x Cushion pad 42cm or smaller)
• Fabric for bunting or bag project – do not buy before the course begins
• Notepad and pen for jotting down ideas and measurements
• Sewing kit if you have one

The course will run from 16th September to 11th November (excluding 28th October). Sessions are on Tuesday evenings for eight weeks from 6pm to 8.30pm,

Please do not buy any fabric until the start of your course.
