What You Will Study

This course is ideal for students with barriers to learning due to the nurturing classroom and learning environment.

We do complete a Level 1 qualification, however the Award is made up of 4 units, whereas our Health and Social Care Level 1 course has 10 units. This means we are able to spend longer on each unit and can take a more holistic approach to our learning.

You will be required to complete coursework for the following units:

Unit 01: Provision and roles within health and social care, early years and childcare

Unit 02: Principles and Values within health and social care, early years and childcare

Unit 03: Communication

Unit 04: Healthy eating and drinking

You will also be provided with learning opportunities through trips to local care home settings, guest speakers and practical activities such as food preparation and outdoor team-building activities.

Additional Requirements: -

Attendance and successful completion of a Curriculum Taster Day and interview to assess suitability

Completion of taster day task to a level 1 standard (which you will receive on your Taster Day)

How You Will Be Assessed

This course has a mixture of coursework and practical skills required to gain an understanding of childcare.

Everything for the course is assessed through coursework, such as posters, case studies, worksheets and assignments alongside group work, team building, class discussions and practical activities. There are no formal examinations. However, if you are taking English or Maths as part of your programme of study, there will be exams for those.
You are awarded a pass or a referral grade on each unit/project. You will need to pass all units in order to achieve the qualification. Some units/projects will have set deadlines and there will be sufficient time to complete all the work in class.

Course Progression

A pass on this course as well as a good reference from your course leader will enable you to progress onto a Level 1 course at college. Most students progress to either Level 1 Health and Social Care or Level 1 Caring for Children.

Where Your Course Can Take You

This course will help you build the skills that are in demand for entry-level jobs in health and social care. It will boost your confidence for teamwork, and many students transition to Level 1 courses at the college. Alternatively, we can provide advice and guidance if you are interested in following an Apprenticeship route.
