What You Will Study
This course is designed to provide learners with a broad and engaging introduction to the hair and beauty sector. It is designed to build foundational knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviours that prepare learners for further study or entry-level employment in the industry.
Through a combination of theory and hands-on experience, learners will explore key areas such as hairdressing, beauty therapy, customer service, health and safety, and personal presentation. The course also aims to develop learners’ confidence, communication skills, and understanding of the expectations within a salon environment.

Entry Requirements
You will need to achieve a grade 3 in English and maths at GCSE.
How You Will Be Assessed
Assessment will be on a unit-by-unit basis, each having both theory and practical elements to achieve. You will be given feedback as you progress through the skills taught and then once you are competent, you will be prepared for assessment tasks. Theory is assessed through written assignments, tests and online exams and practical assessments.
You will be required to model for each other to gain practical competence in a variety of skills.
Course Progression
Students that have successfully completed the programme may continue onto a range of Level 2 courses including Hairdressing, Beauty or Media Make Up Artistry. Future options at City College Norwich also include Level 3 and 4 qualifications.
Where Your Course Can Take You
The hair and beauty industry is a vibrant, dynamic and creative sector offering fantastic employment and training opportunities. You could consider working in salons or spa work both in the UK and abroad. Hairdressers also work in hotels, hospitals, health clubs, and on cruise liners. With further experience, you can also become a salon owner or follow a career in hair design for photography and fashion, or teaching.
Fees
For UK students aged under 19 years old on the 31st August prior to the start of your course, your tuition fees are free. In addition to this there will be costs for equipment, uniform and trips and financial support for this could be available depending on your circumstances. Uniform and kit costs tbc.
