What You Will Study

The IMI Technical Occupational Entry in Automotive Care Level 2 (Diploma) is designed to equip you with the core knowledge, understanding, and practical skills required to begin a career in the automotive sector. This qualification provides a strong foundation for working as an automotive technician, while also developing the broader transferable skills needed across the wider automotive retail industry.

Throughout the course, you will develop essential competences in health and safety, workplace procedures, customer service, and a wide range of hands-on maintenance and repair tasks. The qualification blends theory with practical assessments to ensure you gain real-world experience and confidence in performing routine vehicle checks, replacing components, and supporting day-to-day workshop operations.

Entry Requirements

You will need to have achieved three GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English language and maths.

How You Will Be Assessed

This course is a blended programme combining practical workshop assessments, written theory tasks, and online knowledge tests. You will develop essential skills in health and safety, teamwork, and customer service, alongside hands-on experience completing routine vehicle inspections, maintenance, engine and electrical component replacement, chassis repairs, tyre work, air-conditioning tasks, and more. Online assessments also cover key areas such as legislation, business operations, tools, equipment, and technical automotive operations, ensuring a well-rounded foundation for work in the automotive industry.

Course Progression

After completion of this course, you could progress onto an Automotive Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Where Your Course Can Take You

You could progress into various automotive industry roles, including an Automotive Technician/Mechanic, Service Advisor, MOT Tester, or Parts Advisor.

Fees

If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. In addition to this there will be costs for Uniform; overalls and steel toe capped boots.
