Summary

This Level 3 apprenticeship is designed for job roles such as Business Administrator, Business Advisor, Office Support Assistant, Business Co-ordinator, or Office Co-ordinator. Business Administrators have a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all sectors. This includes small and large businesses alike, from the public sector, private sector and charitable sector.

The role may involve working independently or as part of a team and will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. Business Administrators develop key skills and behaviours to support their own progression towards management responsibilities.

Course content includes:

  • Utilising IT programs and software
  • Decision making and project management
  • Managing a quality service
  • Understanding the organisation and stakeholders
  • Relevant regulations and policies
  • Business fundamentals
  • Professionalism and performance management

You will complete the Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard.

  • This apprenticeship will involve college attendance and off the job training.
  • You will also develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours.
  • You need to have an employer to support your apprenticeship and be employed in a relevant job role.
  • The typical length of this apprenticeship course is 12-18 months.
  • This course has multiple start dates throughout the year.

Entry Requirements

Individual employers will set the selection criteria, but this will usually include:

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths
  • In order to enrol onto an apprenticeship, you need to be employed in a relevant job role and undertake a range of tasks which would enable you to complete the qualification.

Learning Outcomes

For the full apprenticeship, candidates will complete:

  • Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English (if not exempt)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths (if not exempt)

Assessment

Training and assessments are delivered in the workplace and in college. Apprentices will be required to attend college-based sessions as part of their training, whilst also completing off-the-job training in the workplace. You will also complete assessments and observations in the workplace.

You will need to complete Level 2 Maths and English before End Point Assessment (EPA).

At the end of the apprenticeship you will complete an EPA which will consist of:

  • 60- minute multiple- choice knowledge test containing 50 questions
  • 15- minute project presentation with a Question and Answer session
  • 45- minute portfolio- based interview with an independent assessor

Progression

Following successful completion, you could progress onto Level 4 or higher Apprenticeships. Alternatively you could progress onto Management or other business-related qualifications.

Career Progression

The administration role may be a gateway to further career opportunities, such as management or senior support roles. Apprentices may wish to develop into specialisms, such as project management, coaching or team leading.

Fees

Apprenticeship course fees are subject to the age of the apprentice, and the size of the company.
 
For employers with less than 50 employees who do not pay the apprenticeship levy and who take on an apprentice who is aged between 16-21 at the start of their apprenticeship, there will be no direct cost and the full training costs will be covered by Government funding. If the apprentice is aged 22+ the government partially subsides the training costs and the employer will need to pay 5% of the costs. In the case of this course, the fee would be £250.
 
For an employer with more than 50 employees a 5% charge will be implemented regardless of the age of the apprentice which in this case would be £250.
 
A levy paying company will pay the full cost of the apprenticeship from their levy account which in this case would be £5,000.
 
Please note that course fees are to be paid by the employer and apprentices must not be asked to make a financial contribution toward their training.
