What You Will Study

On this two year course you will work towards the University of the Arts (UAL) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Productions Arts. The Extended Diploma at Distinction level is allocated 168 UCAS points which is equivalent to 3 full A Levels at grade A*

Through collaborative learning and immersive study, you can take your performance and production skills to the next level, while continuing to learn how to use your body and voice in performance, and how to develop your creativity and artistic sensibilities. You’ll also explore ways to entertain and inform your audience.

You will perform in a minimum of three productions each year.

City College Norwich has excellent facilities, including the 160-seat Platform theatre, rehearsal and dance studios, technical theatre workshop, TV Studio, audio recording studio, costume and prop stores and full technical facilities and support.

Entry Requirements

You will need to achieve five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language and maths. A grade 4 or above is also required for GCSE Drama or equivalent.

You will also be invited in for a practical audition which forms a core part of the selection process.

How You Will Be Assessed

This course is 100% coursework assessed - with no written exams!

You will complete a series of in-projects that are designed to broaden your skills, experience and expertise. The projects are multi-disciplinary and you will be expected to work collaboratively and proactively with fellow students as well as external clients and stakeholders.
Much of the written evidence, which supports your performance work, is in the form of a digital portfolio. You will need to update this regularly to document your development and research. Other evidence may include presentations, essays and portfolios.
The final end-point assessment (commonly referred to as the Final Major Project) decides the student’s overall grade for the year which is graded as: Pass, Merit or Distinction.
The Extended Diploma is allocated the following UCAS points:
PASS (72),
MERIT (120),
DISTINCTION (168).

All Student work is internally assessed and scrutinised by external verifiers from the University of the Arts London (UAL) to ensure that academic standards are adhered to and maintained.

Course Progression

After successful completion of the 2-year Level 3 Extended Diploma course, students move into a variety of different professional pathways.

  • Further study and training at university
  • Specialised vocational training at accredited Drama schools
  • Degrees in fields other than performing arts (the allocated UCAS points mean that you can do this)
  • Working in the industry
  • Other employment or apprenticeships

Where Your Course Can Take You

You will be ideally positioned to follow in the footsteps of ex student Sam Claflin by studying for a degree at the most prestigious drama school and universities in the country such as: London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, LMA, Rose Bruford and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

For those students who choose not to pursue careers within the production and performing arts industries the course provides fantastic opportunities to develop collaborative working skills, problem solving, creative and the higher order evaluative skills demanded by universities and employers.

Fees

If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16 to 18 on 31st August before the start of your course, your tuition fees will be free. If you are aged 19 and over, please contact the Advice Shop for more information by email at information@ccn.ac.uk or by calling 01603 773773.

You will need to provide your own equipment, with a list provided during induction. A basic laptop, Chrome Book or tablet would really help throughout this course. Students pay for enrichment trips and educational visits during the academic year. International trips are optional and are at additional cost payable by the student.
