What You Will Study
Interested in improving your garden or learning practical construction skills? This hands-on evening course introduces the basic techniques used in hard landscaping, with a focus on building small garden walls and decorative brick features.
Designed for beginners, this course will guide you through the essential skills needed to work with bricks, mortar, and landscaping materials. You will learn how to use basic tools safely, mix mortar correctly, and lay bricks using simple bonding patterns. Throughout the course, you will take part in practical sessions that demonstrate how small landscaping features are constructed.
Most of the course is practical, giving you the opportunity to develop confidence through guided exercises and small construction tasks. By the end of the course, you will have worked on building a simple wall structure and decorative edging feature, gaining useful skills that can be applied to projects at home or as a starting point for further learning.
During the course you will:
- Understand the role of hard landscaping in gardens and outdoor spaces
- Learn how to safely use basic bricklaying and landscaping tools
- Mix and work with mortar
- Lay bricks using a simple stretcher bond
- Build a small garden wall section
- Create decorative edging using brick or stone
- Complete a small practical landscaping feature
The course will run on Tuesdays from 6pm to 9pm from 2nd June to 7th July at our Easton campus.
Basic tools and materials will be provided for use during the course. You are advised to wear suitable work clothing and sturdy footwear.
