What You Will Study

This one-day, small group workshop introduces a wide range of hand embroidery stitches and techniques, making it ideal for both beginners and those looking to build on existing skills. The course has a structured programme, but teaching can be adapted to suit individual experience levels and creative interests. By the end of the day, you will create a beautiful and unique piece of textile art displayed in an embroidery hoop to take home.

Throughout the day, you will explore how to select suitable fabrics, threads and needles, as well as how to prepare fabric using embroidery hoops and backing techniques. A range of essential and decorative stitches will be introduced, including running stitch, seed stitch, chain stitch and French knots, alongside more advanced techniques such as couching, long and short stitch, and appliqué.

All materials and design templates will be provided. However, you are welcome to bring your own materials or any images you find inspiring if you would like to personalise and tailor your stitch project.

The course is suitable for anyone who is completely new to hand embroidery or for those who have previously completed small stitch projects and would like to expand their knowledge, refine their technique and develop confidence with specialist guidance.

The workshop runs on Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm.
