What You Will Study

The course is an introduction to dressmaking and will guide you through the technical steps to complete a finished garment.

Working alongside a textiles expert with a wealth of experience teaching in Fashion and Textiles departments such as The Royal College of Art and Norwich University of the Arts, you will learn the fundamentals of fabric selection, using a sewing pattern, garment construction and, finishing and details.

The course will teach you technical fabric knowledge, understanding sewing patterns, pinning, pressing and cutting skills. Additionally, you will learn garment construction including interfacing, shaping, seams, sleeves, hemming and finishing techniques.

You can choose between two simple dress patterns and you will need a notebook, pencil, pen and ruler. Please do not buy fabric before the first session. However, if you already have fabric then please bring it with you and we can determine if it is suitable.

This course will run on Thursday evenings for eight weeks.

Entry Requirements

A basic understanding of using a sewing machine. If you have experience but are a little rusty we can get you up to speed quickly!
