What You Will Study

This course combines a basic introduction to Childcare where you will study a Level 1 award in Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings, along with learning essential employability skills, English and maths.

You will cover a range of topics such as the roles and provision on offer, the principles and values of health and social care, communication and safeguarding. You will gain first-hand experiences of care within a wide range of settings, including residential care homes, nurseries and special educational needs schools.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements. There will be a written taster day activity you will need to complete.

How You Will Be Assessed

This course has a mixture of course work and practical skills required to gain an understanding of childcare. You will also acquire practical skills to enhance your performance in the workplace.

There are no formal examinations, however, if you are taking English or maths as part of your programme of study, then there will be exams for those.

You will be awarded a pass or a referral grade on each unit/project. You will need to pass all units in order to achieve the qualification. Some units/projects will have set deadlines and there will be sufficient time to complete all the work in class.

Course Progression

A pass on this course as well as a good reference from your course leader will enable you to progress onto a Level 1 course at college. Most students progress to either Level 1 Health and Social Care or Level 1 Caring for Children.

Where Your Course Can Take You

This course will help you build skills that are in demand for entry-level jobs in health and social care. It will boost your confidence for teamwork and support you to progress to higher level study. We can also provide advice and guidance if you are wishing to follow an Apprenticeship route.

Fees

If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over fees may be payable.
