COVID control measures: a message from the Principal

25th October 2021

Dear students

As we come to the end of the first half-term of this academic year, I hope you have made new friends, learned lots and enjoyed your time at college.  We are now seeing COVID-19 case numbers rise in college, locally and nationally and I want to outline our control measures for next half-term.

Please continue to;

  • Stay at home and get a PCR test if you have COVID-19 symptoms;
  • Wash or sanitise your hands thoroughly and frequently;
  • Ensure good ventilation when you are inside;
  • Have good respiratory hygiene with the ‘catch it, kill it, bin it’ approach; and,
  • Clean your work areas before and after use.

If you have COVID-19 symptoms, do not rely on the results from an LFD test.  You must isolate and arrange to have a PCR test to confirm whether or not you have the virus.

If you are not yet vaccinated against COVID-19, I encourage you to have the vaccine to protect yourself and others.  If you need more information on the vaccine, testing or other aspects of COVID-19 then do access the Everything COVID website specifically designed for young people.

Regular home testing is also an important defence against the virus.  Please make sure you do two home LFD tests a week and report your results on the NHS website.  We have plenty of test kits available at college so pick up extra supplies if you need them.  I would also like you to do a test the evening before you return to college after the half-term break.

Face coverings are no longer required by law however, the Government expects and recommends that people continue to wear face coverings in crowded, enclosed spaces. This means that you are advised to wear face coverings in corridors, eating outlets and other communal spaces. You can however choose to wear face coverings in any situation.

Have a good half-term break and we look forward to seeing you back at college soon.

Kind Regards
