City College Norwich has formally signed the University of East Anglia’s Civic Charter, reaffirming a long-standing partnership rooted in shared values, inclusive education and a commitment to supporting communities across Norfolk.

The signing of the Civic Charter reflects a strong, pre-existing relationship and signals a long-standing, shared commitment to working together in new and deeper ways to support learners, skills development and regional opportunities.

The UEA Civic Charter sets out UEA’s commitments to listening to local voices, nurturing partnerships, widening participation, and working to align education and research to help address social, economic and environmental challenges in the region.

Our commitment as a charter signatory:

City College Norwich has been providing education and training for the communities of Norwich and Norfolk since 1891. We are proud of our long-standing relationship with UEA and to have been an Associate College since 2006.

This partnership continues to enrich learning opportunities and support the achievement and progress of young people and adult learners throughout Norfolk. Signing the UEA Civic Charter reflects our shared commitment to making Norfolk a better place to live and work through a broad range of inclusive educational opportunities for the communities we serve.”

The partnership between UEA and City College Norwich is a clear demonstration of our shared civic commitments to our city and county.

Each year numerous students from across City College Norwich, Easton College and Paston College benefit from learning opportunities that have been made possible thanks to our extensive links to UEA.

T Level Management & Administration students from Paston College visited UEA to hear from two ex US congress members as part of a Congress to Campus event.

The existing partnership includes UEA’s role as the validating partner for a range of higher education programmes delivered by City College Norwich, enabling students to study for UEA-validated degrees within a further education setting.

A more recent initiative will include innovative teaching arrangements that enable UEA Postgraduate Research students to gain teaching experience, while supporting City College Norwich students through enriched learning and clearer progression pathways.

Prof Johanna Forster, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor Civic, UEA said:

Our Civic Charter commits us to working in meaningful partnerships here in East Anglia, connecting the teaching and research at the University with wider society.

Our long-standing relationship with City College Norwich brings those commitments to life — supporting learners, nurturing our communities, and strengthening education in line with regional strengths and needs.”

The Civic Charter signing took place during a visit to City College Norwich by Vice Chancellor, Prof David Maguire,  Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Student Education and Experience, Prof Claire Pike, and Prof Zoe Butterfint, who has also been instrumental in the work between UEA and City College Norwich in her previous role as Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Partnerships and Apprenticeships.

The visit provided an opportunity to reflect on the success of the partnership to date and to explore future collaboration focused on education, skills, civic engagement and place-based impact.
