What You Will Study

Do you often find yourself reflecting on the social world that you live in? Or perhaps you often question how your own experiences have been shaped by society? Throughout this course, you will look critically at different features of society, such as family, education, beliefs and crime. You will question social organisation, understand people’s experiences in different societal positions and groups, and become more articulate and fluent in expressing your ideas and opinions. You will combine theoretical perspectives and real-world problems, learning to compare different ways of understanding society. There is no right and wrong in sociology, only different points of view, and so you will be encouraged to think critically and open yourself up to new ideas.

Students will come to A Level Sociology from a variety of backgrounds, and with different experiences, making for lively and stimulating sociological discussions and debates. You will learn through a variety of exciting methods, such as topical visual material, news articles, interactive textbooks and more. We offer dedicated teaching rooms and specialist sociology teachers who have considerable expertise in the subject; your teacher will have a real commitment to and belief in the value of sociology.
