What You Will Study
If you are eager to understand the world around you through a political lens, then A Level Politics is well suited to you. You will explore the UK political system, the philosophy behind different political ideologies, and global political issues.
Year one of the course is UK-focused, covering UK politics and the UK Government. UK politics focuses on how people participate in politics, including political parties, voting and referendums. The UK Government examines how the political system works, including Parliament and the Supreme Court.
In year two, you will begin by studying political ideologies. This will teach you about what liberals, conservatives, socialists and nationalists believe, and why they think this. You will then move on to global politics, which will cover global issues such as conflict, the economy, and the environment.
Successful students usually have an interest in current affairs and how society works, and use social media, news websites, newspapers, television and radio news to keep up to date. You will need to be open to discussing different perspectives on things and communicating this through essay writing.
