What You Will Study

Further Maths is a course that expands upon, and deepens your understanding of, the content covered throughout A Level Maths.

Throughout both years of the course, you will study a compulsory core maths unit, and optional units in areas like statistics and mechanics. Core maths extends your knowledge of topics such as algebra, trigonometry and geometry, and explores new ideas like calculus. In statistics you will learn how to analyse and summarise numerical data, making conclusions and predictions. In mechanics, you will examine the motion of objects and how they respond to the forces acting on them.

Further Maths will teach you a range of transferable skills, such as to think clearly and logically, and to persevere when you can’t immediately see the solution to a problem.

Throughout this course, you will see how the subject can be used to show what is happening and what might happen in different real-life situations. Further, many of the ideas studied throughout the course will form an introduction to modern fields of study such as robotics and biomechanics, as well as traditional fields like engineering and physics.
