What You Will Study

A Level English Language and Literature gives you the exciting opportunity to explore your passion for reading and writing, while studying how language creates specific effects and evokes responses.

You will study a wide variety of texts from different places, periods, and genres, written for different audiences and purposes. You will examine novels, newspapers, blogs, plays, poems, and more through a range of literary and linguistic approaches. You will explore revered writers and poets such as Margaret Atwood and Tennessee Williams.

Throughout the course, you are encouraged to consider how writers and speakers choose to communicate and represent people and places. Lastly, you will examine dialogue and narrative voices in literature and compare them with the spontaneous speech of everyday life.
