Alternatives to using the student car park during campus building works (April to December 2024)

Work is now underway on our much-needed Construction Skills building which we were fortunate to receive government funding for at our Ipswich Road site.

Whilst this is great news for the College it does mean that as of Monday 15^th April 2024, we have had to significantly reduce the number of student car parking spaces at our Ipswich Road campus during the construction of this building. We anticipate that this work will be finished by the end of this year.  

Please note that the disabled access parking spaces at the front of the main entrance will not be affected by the planned building works.

Alternative travel options

We recognise that the reduced number of parking spaces whilst this work is carried out may cause you some concern.

We have therefore negotiated alternative parking and travel options for students. These include three ‘Park and Rides’ serving a wide catchment area.  Please see below for more information on these alternate ways to travel into college.

Park and Ride

Our nearest Park and Ride that runs services to City College Norwich is at the Harford Park and Ride. Students are charged £2.00 a day for Park and Ride and any additional passengers £1, so carsharing is a great way to save money.

Harford Park and Ride have dedicated services running to City College in the morning and back again in the afternoon. Morning pick-ups from Harford to City College Norwich are at 08.05am and 08.55am, and in the afternoon from City College Norwich bus stop at 3.49pm,4.49pm and 5.49pm.

You can also Park and Ride at Sprowston & Thickthorn with drop off and pick up on Town Close Road, which is a 5-minute walk to the College. Click here for Sprowston, Thickthorn and Harford timetables.

First buses

First buses let you use your bus pass on their buses whenever you like, as much as you like, including weekends, evenings and half term holidays.

There are different bus passes depending which zone you will be travelling from. For example, if you are travelling from Acle, Diss or even Dereham this is classed as a Norwich zone. If you are travelling from Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, or Hemsby to City College Norwich this is the Explorer zone.

Konect buses offer City College Norwich students travel discounts on their buses. Just download their app onto your phone and start saving. Konect buses cover the Swanton Morley/Dereham/Mattishall/Horning/Wroxham/Salhouse/Rackheath/Diss/Stalham/Catfield/

New Thetford bus service

A new bus service from Thetford to Norwich Bus station lets you travel for £4 a day:

Beryl Bikes

We now have Beryl Bikes and e-scooters stationed at the front of the Cromer Building. These are perfect to use to if you would like to get to and from the main travel hubs in Norwich, or even if you live in and around the City Centre, it's a cheaper alternative way to travel, whilst improving your mental and physical health. On road parking

Please be aware that many of the roads in the vicinity of the Ipswich Road campus are restricted to residents’ parking only. Please carefully review the parking arrangements for any street you are parking on and respect these restrictions at all times.  There is active enforcement of these restrictions, and you risk a fine if found to be parking inappropriately.

Help towards travel costs

You may be eligible to receive a bursary contribution toward travel costs even if you have not applied for a bursary yet this year.  Please email financialadvice@ccn.ac.uk for bursary enquires.
