Support Volunteer and Telephone Support Volunteer
Community Action Norfolk
Dereham, NR20 3TL
The CAN Connect service is led by Community Action Norfolk in partnership with Future Projects and is part of a range of services across Norfolk aimed at reducing loneliness and isolation. The services can help individuals connect with people and activities in their community as well as providing a range of support to help them achieve their goals, which in turn supports organisations and people to make the places we live, stronger, friendlier and more resilient.
This service has been adapted in light of COVID-19 so that we can support people from a distance in the community who are currently living in their own homes. Because of the current situation we find ourselves in, it’s important to understand the rules applying to social distancing and hygiene and the importance of maintaining these to protect self and others.
The key role of the support service is to:
• Support individuals in the North Norfolk area at this difficult time
• Engage in a new way of supporting lonely and socially isolated individuals in North Norfolk
• To support clients of all ages and backgrounds affected by loneliness and isolation
• Increase social connections for those who really need it
• Reduce members of the community feeling increasingly lonely and socially isolated due to the Coronavirus
Anything undertaken outside the agreed tasks should first be agreed with the allocated staff member or if that person is not available another member of the CAN Connect team.
Volunteers needed to support clients living in Norfolk who are lonely and isolated by providing weekly telephone calls for social contact, which could lead to face to face visits and support in attending local groups and clubs
This role is flexible and you can provide support around your university studies. Usually a support call or visit lasts no longer than an hour and can be weekly or fortnightly. Volunteers are able to specify which days and hours they would like to commit too.
