16 to 19 Tuition Funding

The Department for Education has made funding available to colleges to support 16 to 19 students who have had their learning affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tuition Fund is ring-fenced to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus.

In the 2022/23 academic year City College Norwich is initially prioritising support for students who have not achieved a grade 4 in English and/or maths, students who would benefit most from small group tuition and students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) particularly where they have experienced additional disruption to learning as a result of their specific needs and disabilities.

The college will spend time reviewing individual student starting points and progress students make through the first half term to help tailor what additional small group tuition might be required to best support student need.  All sessions will be additional to the original planned timetabled hours for their programmes of study.  Students will be prioritised for small group tuition based upon their needs outlined above and as per the guidance released by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), which can be accessed here.

The support that we will offer

Tuition Support offered will be based on an individual needs assessment, the identification of an individual starting point, clear learning goals, expectations and outcomes.  This includes:

  • Autumn and Summer GCSE maths and English resit preparation;
  • Vocational deferred assessment preparation;
  • Vocational catch-up sessions for knowledge and practical skills development; and,
  • Study skills sessions to support academic progress.

Our commitment

City College Norwich is committed to ensuring the fund is used in accordance with the Government’s guidance on the 16 to 19 tuition fund by:

  • producing this statement explaining how the fund will be used to support the most disadvantaged students.
  • publishing this statement on our website.
  • recording the use of the fund, including references to individual students who receive support, the needs of those students, the number of hours of tuition delivered and retaining the evidence of the tuition provided.
  • delivering the extra tuition and spending the allocated funding in the 2022/23 academic year.
  • notifying the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) of any underspend from the fund for it to be reclaimed.
