On Thursday 14th December, Paston College’s Student Executive hosted their annual charity Christmas quiz that included a Christmas Jumper competition with All proceeds were donated to homeless charity Shelter. Deputy Principal Jerry White attended to judge the competition and hand out prizes to winner Gabriella (pictured alongside staff member Kat Sanders).
The Christmas quiz is an annual event which has had lots of success in the past. Both staff and students get involved, have some fun and are really keen to participate. The Christmas Jumper competition is a fun addition to the event and provides an opportunity to generate added interest and donations. Jerry White was given the strict criteria of person wearing ‘the most festive and entertaining jumper’ to help him decide!
The event was organised by the Paston Student Executive who are a group of year 13 students who aim to make a difference to college life for their peers. This year’s executive is made up of the following students:
- President - Hannah Begley
- Vice president - Georgina Reynolds
- Charities - Charlotte Raywood
- Charities - Daisy Lester
- Wellbeing - Cathy Sole
- Equality and diversity - Maisie McCarter
- Environment/Health and Safety - Daisy Den Englese
- Year 1 reps - Ellen Hedge and Beth Swan
- I.T rep - Nathan Wallace
Part of their roles in the student executive is to organise fundraising events, such as this event, which helps them test their planning, organisation and management skills.
The organisation of the Christmas jumper competition and quiz created a good buzz amongst the students executive and gave the students something fun to be involved in. Hannah, President, and Georgina, Vice President, devised the quiz which consisted of a mix rounds with a festive theme and general knowledge based questions.
The student executive team decided to donate all proceeds to homeless charity ‘Shelter’ as they have been keeping up to date on reports that suggest that homelessness is on the rise. Christmas can be an especially difficult time of year for these people and the Paston Student Executive team really want to contribute to making a difference. Hopefully, the money raised can go towards providing warm overnight shelter and food for those affected by homelessness.
Thank you to all staff and students who attended this event and congratulations to the winners of the quiz and Christmas jumper competition. Also, a big well done to the Paston Student Executive team who all worked very hard in the planning and organising of this event.
