Former Public Services student, Bryn Scott Rowlands, shares how his City College Norwich journey supported him in his ambitions to serve in the British Army.
I'd been keen to join the Armed Forces from a young age. I could have joined at 16 and not given college a chance, but I chose to enrol on a Level 3 Public Services course, to give me the qualifications to progress my career.
Friendship and opportunity
I really enjoyed my time at college, I made lasting friendships and took advantage of many opportunities. The course allowed me to learn from many different walks of life, it helped me to become a more well-rounded person. I particularly enjoyed the Outward Bound part of the course.
You might have an ambition to join a chosen service, such as the army, but the Public Services course enables you to learn about other service areas and understand how they operate, giving you a more comprehensive knowledge of public services. I developed self-discipline at college, which helped me to progress.
Serving in the Royal Engineers
I am currently in the British Army, serving in the Royal Engineers. In future, I would like to complete a trade course in fabrication and welding. Wherever my career takes me, my main focus is doing something that makes me feel fulfilled.
