Sixth Form Centre students celebrate A Level achievements
15th August 2019
The StartUp Lounge was a hive of activity on A Level results day, as our A Level and AS students came in to pick up their exam results.
A large number had already had their university places confirmed through UCAS Track, but there were still plenty of nerves, tension and excitement as the results envelopes were opened - with teachers and tutorial staff on hand to advise on next steps, continuing the support they have provided throughout the last 2 years.
Head of A Levels, Donna Howe, said:
Congratulations to all our students on their A Level successes, which have seen the large majority secure their first choice university places. Overall our pass rates have been maintained, at 98%, with a 100% pass rate in the majority of subjects. I am extremely proud of our students and the fantastic support and inclusive ethos of our teachers who work tirelessly to support every single student.”
Franky Sewter achieved an A* and two As (in Sociology, History and Religious Studies) and will be taking a gap year. They said:
I would say it’s such a testament to City College that I’ve done so well. The teachers here have been amazing. The teaching is so good and the support is amazing.”
Lucy Cossey said she was pleased to have a range of options available to her after achieving a B and two Cs in Photography, Business and Sociology. Reflecting on the last 2 years with The Sixth Form Centre, Lucy said:
It’s been life-changing, I’ve learned a lot from being at college. There’s a lot of things I can take from it. I feel like I’ve learnt a lot from my subjects, I’ve met lots of people, and I’ve learnt a lot about myself.”
Edith McKenna is set to do a degree in law at Cardiff University after achieving an A*, a B and a C in Religious Studies, Politics and English Literature. Edith commented:
I knew I’d got my university place before I came in. I checked on Track and I cried, just out of sheer shock! The teachers have been great. I like the fact that they started doing revision really early on, the support is great.”
