City College Norwich’s Media Make Up students showcased their skills at the Warpaint Championships, held at the ExCeL London convention centre last term, returning to Norwich with three top 3 places and as winners of the College Cup.
Six students from the course, together with their models, represented the college in the competition.
Lauren English and Hannah Edge achieved 2nd and 3rd places respectively in the ‘Iconic British Designers’ category, with Emma Bird achieving 3rd place in the ‘Spring Bride’ category.
A lot of work went into the preparation for this competition, with hours of student work going into the making of mood boards, costumes, and in practising for the event.
On the day of the Warpaint Championships, 8 hours were spent creating looks related to the chosen themes.
Media Makeup Lecturer Tracey Gaines commented:
“The students all enthusiastically put themselves forward for the competition and were very proactive throughout. As a college we wanted to encourage their enthusiasm. These sorts of competitions are great because by seeing and experiencing events their confidence is boosted and their profiles are raised. As well as this, the events can help to broaden their knowledge and refine their ability to think outside of the box.”
“I have definitely seen an improvement in their work. They all demonstrated an excellent work ethic, precision and accuracy in bringing it all together. We were very proud tutors when we found out they had won.”
