"If I could sum up my City College Norwich journey in one word, it would be ‘Transformative'"

Bethany Goode shares how her transformative City College Norwich journey has helped her to achieve her ambitions.

Beginning my college journey

Bethany made lasting friends at college

Bethany made lasting friendships on her Media Production course

At City College Norwich, I studied GCSE courses through Phoenix Plus, progressing on to a Level 3 BTEC course in Media Production. When I came to CCN I was experiencing a long-term health condition and was shy and anxious around people.

Hands on experience and outstanding support

The tutors and college were amazingly supportive and knowledgeable. The facilities and equipment the College offered allowed me lots of hands on experience. I had no idea what I wanted to do as a career but I was supported in each course I did until I could narrow down my future ambitions and plans.

The courses had many events and activities outside the classroom, which enabled us to begin making contacts in the television and film industry.

The friendships I made at college will be with me forever, and I still regularly talk with my old classmates.

Bright futures

I have gone on to study a BA in Filmmaking at the Northern Film School, part of Leeds Beckett University. Due to my grades I was awarded a Bright Futures Scholarship – which helped me financially in my first year.

I am also a student ambassador for the #InLeeds programme, which involved working with digital media companies such as SkyBet and the FDM Group. One of my recent achievements was working on the Screen Yorkshire programme, ‘Beyond Brontës’.

Next steps

I’m graduating from university in July 2020, and I plan on gaining work experience in the film and television industry – either through an internship or by working on low level production roles on feature films. I’m also aiming to apply to the National Film and Television School for a master’s degree in Film Production.

My long term aspiration is to be a Producer within the television or film industry.

A transformative journey

If I could sum up my City College Norwich journey in one word, it would be ‘Transformative’.
