"I have progressed in my subjects, made lifelong friendships and achieved things I never thought I could"

Current student, Tamsin Roberts, shares how her City College Norwich journey has seen her grow in confidence and skills

First steps

I joined City College Norwich to study A Levels in Biology, Psychology, and History.

I visited CCN on an open day and for a taster day, the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere at college was welcoming. At the taster day, I sat in on lessons that interested me which helped to make me feel included.

I received lots of information from the Advice Shop about my options and career aspirations.

Friendships and achievements

Tamsin has made lasting friendships at college

My time at City College Norwich has been amazing. I have progressed much more in my subjects than I expected, made lifelong friendships and achieved things I never thought I could.

I’ve developed as a person, and the personal tutors and staff have been so supportive. I’ve attended many workshops and revision classes which have really helped me in exams. The teachers and staff care about every student, not just the high achievers.

I’ve found the college more inclusive than my secondary school; it’s allowed me to explore and develop my talents, skills, and confidence.

Duke of Edinburgh & Student Union Activism

Tamsin volunteers as a Student Union representative

I am currently taking part in my Duke of Edinburgh Award through college, in which I take part in new sports, gain practical skills, as well as meeting new people. I am also a representative for the Student Union, which has given me the opportunity to be a voice for the student body.

Next steps

The college has helped me to consider my career options and aspirations, which has really helped me decide on my next step. After finishing my A Levels, I am planning to study an adult nursing degree.

Once I have gained my degree, I would like to join the Royal Air Force as a member of the nursing team. I hope that once I leave the RAF to specialise in cardiology as part of my nursing career.
