Nineteen-year-old Ryan Fox has not looked back since he made the decision to apply for an Apprenticeship position with the reception team at Norwich’s historic Maids Head Hotel (which is the oldest hotel in the UK).  He explains that an Apprenticeship in hospitality held a lot of appeal:

I’ve always been a practical worker. An Apprenticeship seemed like a hands-on way of learning, and the best route to take for me. I chose hospitality because I enjoy working with people, and it is a subject that increases and enhances your career and life skills.”

Ryan says that he has felt very supported throughout his Apprenticeship, by both the hotel management and staff from the college.

He values the fact that every day is different, adding:

My favourite part of my job is the people. I love meeting our guests and have been lucky enough to also welcome some famous faces to the Hotel.”

Ryan can see the progress he has made through the Apprenticeship and says he has developed beyond his expectations.

I have developed my people skills and my career skills throughout my time here, I have become better at speaking to people.  My Apprenticeship journey has been a successful one, I’ve got far more out of it than I realised I would. I’ve learnt key life skills and made great friends.  The Apprenticeship has been a great choice for me. I feel like I’ve got ahead in my career, and my life has been kick-started."

Georgina Postlethwaite, Sales Manager at The Maids Head Hotel, says that this development has seen Ryan make a much-valued contribution within the hotel:

“Ryan has been received very well by our guests. He smiles all the time now, and it has been lovely to see him grow in confidence. Ryan is the perfect example of what our industry needs.  Here at the Maids Head Hotel we have a Vision and Values reward scheme for our staff. Ryan has received over 20 recognitions through this scheme during his time here.”
