Three Level 2 hairdressing students from City College Norwich did themselves, and the college, proud, in claiming 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in an inter-college competition held at Suffolk New College recently.
The competition brought together student hairdressers from Lowestoft College, West Suffolk College, Suffolk New College and City College Norwich, with an evening look theme.
City College Norwich’s Agnes Iacovazzo, Millie Campling and Celine Gatehouse each produced excellent work that was enough to see them awarded the top three places on the day.
Agnes Iacovazzo’s winning style was inspired by an ancient Greek look. The 17 year old from Norwich said:
“When I came 1st I was shocked. This has helped me because it has given me experience on how to do more looks. For example, I can now do more complicated things easier and quicker than I could before.”
Celine Gatehouse, 17, from New Buckenham, who was awarded third place, added:
“It was a good experience, seeing other people’s work and new ways of doing things. It helps you a lot.”
Steve Bacon, hairdressing lecturer at City College Norwich, said:
“We are delighted by the achievement of our three students who only started their career path with us in September. This event provided them with valuable experience of participating in open competition. It recognises their achievements and distance travelled in learning and developing hairdressing skills and creativity. Recreating styles originally developed for one of their course components under competition conditions has given them valuable self-confidence.”
