Elise Sayer, a hairdressing student with City College Norwich, has reached the final of a national Hair-up competition after her red carpet-inspired style impressed judges.
The 17-year-old, from Fakenham, will now go up against 7 other top student stylists, in the final of the Hair Council Competition, which will be held at the Salon International hair exhibition at Excel London on Monday 7 October.
To reach the final, entrants were judged on photographs of a Hair-up style they had created. Elise’s style, which tied in with the glamourous red carpet theme, incorporated a rose shaped creation to the side of her model’s head with an added red hair extension to complete the final look.
The pressure will be on in the competition final as the contestants will have just 50 minutes to recreate their style in front of the judges.
Elise sees the competition as a great opportunity to showcase her talents as she prepares to embark on a career in the industry.
“I thought I would enter because I thought I’d enjoy the experience, I think it puts your name out there as well, so I like that aspect too.”
After she finishes her current level 3 hairdressing course at City College Norwich, Elise plans to further develop her experience by working in a hair salon in London.
Eventually she would like to return to Norfolk and set up a business with her older sister, Eden, a beautician who also did her training with City College Norwich.
Looking ahead to the competition final, Elise adds, “I’m a little bit nervous, but I’m really excited to be part of Salon internationals competition! I’ve waited for 2 months to find out the result from my entry so it’s a relief that I am through, and it’s exciting.”
Kerry Pike, Hairdressing lecturer, City College Norwich, commented:
“Competitions like this are a brilliant opportunity for our students to test themselves and showcase what they are capable of. It’s a great experience for someone starting out in the industry to be able to show salons and potential clients what standards we aim for.
“Elise worked really hard on her entry for the competition and fully deserves to have made it into the top 8. We are very proud of Elise for this achievement and will be supporting her every step of the way as prepares to create her hair-up style for the judges in the final.”
