Summary
Courses start in September 2020, January 2021 & April 2021.
We routinely offer the course on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings.
This is an introductory qualification for people interested in teaching and training in further education colleges, independent training providers, local authorities and voluntary organisations.
You do not need to be working in a teaching role to complete this course.
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training will give an insight into
- The roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
- Inclusive teaching and learning approaches
- Planning and preparing lessons
- How to assess and give constructive feedback
- Assessment and record keeping
The teaching programme is delivered in sessions of 3 hours per week during the relevant college terms, on a Tuesday morning or a Thursday evening. In addition, once enrolled, you will have access to an online learning environment with access to resources to support your studies, and your progression after the programme.
We will be offering the following:

Entry Requirements
There is no requirement for you to be teaching at present or to have previous teaching or training experience. Preferably you will have a subject specialism which you intend to consider teaching in the future; it is an advantage to have had some experience of classroom or training environments, but not a necessity.
You must be aged 19 or over.
It is desirable that candidates looking to teach in Further Education have:
- A qualification or considerable experience in the subject you intend to teach, usually at level 3 standard
- Literacy and numeracy skills at level 2, GCSE A*-C or the equivalent

Understand the role and use of constructive feedback in the assessment process.
Assessment
The qualification will be assessed by:
- Seven short assignments (approximately 500 – 700 words in length)
- A short teaching session (15-20 min micro teach) to other students and your tutor
- A reflective journal
As the assessment of this course is through written assignments, candidates are expected to research and complete work in their own time.
Progression
On successful completion of the programme candidates can progress onto:
Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (1 year) - A minimum of 30 hours contracted teaching is needed to enrol.
Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training- (2 year) - A minimum of 100 hours contracted teaching is required over 2 years (50 hours in each year) to enrol.
NB: There is no requirement to complete the qualification suite in sequence. If you meet the admission requirements for any of our courses, you may enrol at any level without having completed the earlier qualifications.
Career Progression
You can progress onto a variety of teaching or training roles in a variety of organisations such further education colleges, independent training providers, local authorities and voluntary organisations. Many of these organisations might also require you to progress onto a further teaching qualification such as those detailed in ‘Progression’.
