Fitness Services in Sport, Extended Certificate Level 3

The course includes the theory behind sport, health, exercise and leadership complimented with practical activities to reinforce learning. It will test your sporting knowledge and your own practical ability by covering skills and theory based modules, whilst also developing your health and fitness and wellbeing understanding. This course consists of 4 Units and is equivalent to 1 A Level with the addition of a Level 2 Gym Instructor certificate. The second year leads on to a second A Level and deepens skills and knowledge around key subject areas, with an additional sports industry qualification.
Specific Modules that could be studied may include:
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Fitness training and programming for health, sport and wellbeing
- Professional development in Sport
- Sports Leadership
In addition to your main programme, if required, you will study English and Maths. Depending on your grades on entry, you will study either Functional Skills or GCSE's English and Maths. Please check our English and Maths page for further information.
Why Our College?
Each year our Outdoor Leadership students complete a 48 hour bush craft survival assessment and an expedition that has seen them travel the width of the country on bikes they built themselves.
4 GCSE's at 4 / C grade, or a First Diploma in a related subject at Merit level.
Must also be able to demonstrate a commitment to the course and show some understanding of the industry.
Assessment is varied and will combine a variety of methodologies including external examinations, assignments, presentations and professional discussion.
Following the successful completion of the course you can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Services in year 2.
Following the completion of the second year, students will be able to progress on degree level courses or gain employment within the Sport, Health and Fitness industry. At City College Norwich we offer a BSc (hons) degree in Sport, Health and Exercise.
The sport and active leisure industry supports over 450,000 jobs in the UK. Over the last five years it has become a £20 billion industry and experts predict it will continue to grow faster than other sectors in the economy.
This course will allow you to progress onto many careers which may include; Gym instructor or Leisure Centre Assistant, Personal Trainer, Sport Development Officer, Sports Nutritionist, Sports Therapist and Sports Psychologist.

There will be costs for equipment, uniform and trips. Approximately £100-120 for uniform, £20 course materials, £100 contribution for enrichment activities
