The ABC Awarding Body Diploma in Art, Design and Media is a pivotal qualification, which provides students with the unique experience of running one of the largest media production houses in the eastern region whilst also gaining a widely recognised and highly valued qualification.
City College Norwich has created a dynamic course in which you will learn how to be part of a media production company. You will research, pitch, budget and create “live” projects that may include film, TV, radio, animation, photography and graphic design. You will develop creative, business and enterprising skills over the course of one year. The Media Learning Company is modelled on the structure of a production company which means that you get real experience of what the industry is like.

The course starts with the exciting task of branding the production company. You will then be mentored by industry professionals including Eye Film & TV and given exceptional opportunities to work with a broad range of clients and real projects. Check out this year’s Paper Plane Productions!
This unique opportunity is available to students who have 2 A levels at grade C or above or a minimum of Merit at Level 3 Extended Diploma. It is open to young people with interests in the creative arts, business, events management, social media, film and television.
This course develops the skills and knowledge needed to be an effective employee in the creative arts sector. It is recommended for students who wish to work within a media production environment or students who wish to find out more about the media world before committing to an HE course. During the course learning is based around tuition and on the job practice. The course will be structured over 36 weeks based on a 35 hour working week. The course will be as close as possible to working in the real world of a production company.
City College Norwich have formed partnerships with Eye Film and Television, local businesses, charities and communities to secure video commissions for the student learning company. Students will deal face to face with the client and guided by Eye professionals will take on responsibility for getting the job done. Students on the course will benefit from their own dedicated production office/studios and will have the opportunity to utilize the fully equipped TV studios and editing equipment at City College Norwich.
Training and assessment will be delivered in college and on sector specific assignments with Eye TV. Assessment will be via a variety of methods including assignments, on the job learning and through project work.
Over the duration of one year, you will explore a broad range of disciplines which will allow you to find out what you are most suited to. This course is ideal for those wishing to discover and explore potential career paths. You will then have the opportunity to either pursue a career in the creative industries or enter higher education.
So far graduates of the course have found employment with cutting-edge digital media companies, started their own businesses in design and media and entered prestigious higher education courses. All students will need to provide their own basic equipment, including an minimum 1TB hard drive, with a list provided during induction. Students pay for enrichment trips and educational visits during the academic year. International trips are optional and are at additional cost payable by the student.
