GCSEs for 16-18 year olds - Phoenix Pathways
The Phoenix Pathways provision is an important and long-standing part of our College’s offer and is currently the single largest GCSE resit programme in Norfolk.
Phoenix courses are specifically designed to help students progress on to the next stage of their education. Phoenix courses are split into pathways appropriate to your next steps.
A concentrated one-year programme for students who need to improve four GCSEs in order to access A Level and degree level courses. This is a highly academic pathway, with crossover provision into A Level to ensure students are equipped to succeed in higher level studies.
This course has been specifically designed for those who are not certain about their next steps and would like to improve their GCSE profile to broaden choice. This pathway has been developed to explore wider progression opportunities and support students to move onto Level 2 and 3 vocational courses.
Provides a nurturing and supportive learning environment which enables students with specific mental and physical health barriers to achieve and thrive whilst studying three GCSEs. Crucially, this individualised pathway recognises the importance of improving students’ potential to succeed and progress through one-to-one and group support, wellbeing and enrichment opportunities.
A progression-focussed opportunity for students to develop employability and life skills. This course supports students to progress into further education or employment. This course is not fully GCSE based and allows learners to achieve a BTEC level 2 Diploma in Work Skills as well as a GCSE or Functional Skills qualification in English and Maths as appropriate.
Phoenix Pathways courses are suitable for students from wide and varying backgrounds. Phoenix is a fresh start, a clean slate and more importantly a more mature learning environment to support you in achieving the foundations for you to progress.
They are intensive year-long courses where building upon existing subject knowledge to achieve higher grades is essential. Because of this, these courses may not be suitable for those who are starting GCSE study from scratch although we do assess this on a case by case basis.
