This programme bridges the gap between domestic cooking and the skills and knowledge needed for employment within the catering industry. This is designed for students who need additional support and may have a range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
The course has two possible routes one leading to City and Guilds Entry 3 Introduction to the Hospitality Industry and the other, Gateway Level 1 Skills for Hospitality and Catering
The course covers independent living skills including:
- Health and safety
- Foundation cookery skills
- Introduction to customer service
- Introduction to the hospitality Industry
- Personal nutrition

No formal qualifications are needed for this course but you will need to demonstrate the commitment, motivation and enthusiasm to succeed on the course.
To develop confidence in the kitchen and to develop foundation cookery skills
Theory work is continuously assessed and designed to suit the individual learner needs. Practical work is assessed throughout the year.
Students starting on the Entry qualification may be able to progress to the Level 1 Gateway qualification, those undertaking the Gateway qualification may progress to City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Hospitality and Catering
Successful achievement of the qualifications is designed to raise awareness of employment opportunities in the Catering and Hospitality Industry .
If you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 years and over please contact the Advice Shop. There will be additional be costs for uniform and equipment, approximately £64.
