All students on the listed pathways work towards the University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design in their first year of study; progressing onto their University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design in their second year. The Extended Diploma at Distinction level is allocated 168 UCAS points, which is equivalent to 3 full A Levels at grade A.
Enjoyable, varied and challenging. You will learn specialist skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and digital media; alongside studying historical and contemporary artists and designers. You will be guided through unites within studio projects. As you progress you will develop skills in problem solving, generating, developing and refining ideas and analytical & communication skills. In the summer term you will be working on a major project developing ideas in a chosen specialist area. Year two aims to support you in developing an individual creative pathway and specialist portfolio of work. You will be working more independently through a self-generated final major project, and will exhibit work in an end of year show. You will also have the opportunity to present your work in an external exhibition and develop additional skills in public art curation promotion. The focus of your studies will be towards intended progression to Higher Education or working in creative industries.
You will be guided through the units within studio projects. There will be a series of gallery visits to London and visits within Norfolk on a regular basis. Plus a study and cultural visit to a European destination.

Objective

The UAL Awarding Body Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to
progress to degree level study in art and design, or into employment. It provides an opportunity for those who have an interest in the visual arts to
explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding and provides a supportive transition from general to

Assessment

The University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design is assessed through a series of projects that are designed to broaden student’s skills, experience and expertise. The projects are multi-disciplinary and require students to work collaboratively and pro-actively with fellow students as well as external clients and stakeholders. A final end-point assessment (commonly referred to as the Final Major Project) decides the student’s overall grade for the year which is graded at: PASS/MERIT or DISTINCTION. The first year (Diploma) is allocated the following UCAS points: PASS (36), MERIT (60), DISTINCTION (84). The second year (Extended Diploma) is allocated the following UCAS points: PASS (72), MERIT (120), DISTINCTION (168). Student work is externally assessed and scrutinised by External Verifiers from the University of the Arts London (UAL) to ensure that academic standards are adhered and maintained.

Progression

Successfully completing the Level 3 Diploma in Level 3 Art & Design will provide direct entry onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design in the second year. The design and structure of the University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 in Art & Design allows students the opportunity to further extend their learning by choosing an alternative Creative Arts pathway in their second year. For example, providing entry requirements are met, a student could follow the Fine Art pathway in their first year and then choose to follow the 3D Spatial Design, Photography, Digit Art, Animation & Games Design, Fashion Textiles, Art & Design or Graphics Illustration pathway in their second year. This multi-disciplinary route is becoming increasingly popular with our students who recognise that they need a broad portfolio of skills to thrive in the creative sector.

Career Progression

City College Norwich is a member of the University of the Arts London Progression Partnership to promote the recruitment of talented, creative students from high quality further education institutions to UAL higher education degree level courses. The course team also work with local and national higher education providers such as NUA and UAL to ensure that our students are ready and prepared for their next step. We also work collaboratively with local, national and international artists and creative agencies to provide a fantastic experience of work for our students and also to ensure that our courses prepare our students.
