Events Management and Music Production Level 2

This exciting new course is designed for students with an interest in music and events management. We adopt a holistic approach providing outstanding opportunities to develop your music production and sound engineering skills in our industry standard live room and mac studio. You will work collaboratively across the Music and Performing Arts department to create gigs and shows both on campus in our 160 seater Platform Theatre as well as liaising with external venues to plan and present performances for the public.. You will also develop moving image and sound design skills, creating immersive 3D installations.
Our state of the art facilities include a 160 seater theatre with an excellent lighting and sound system rehearsal space. You will learn by completing projects and written assignments that are completed only whilst working on realistic workplace situations, which will enable you to gain the experience needed to pursue a career in the production industries.
You are likely to be:
Responsible for both the artistic and technical sides of the theatre and its production design of lights.
Sound & set.
Management of technical teams.
Make and source props.
Operation of sound & lighting equipment.
Crew live performances.
Ensure all elements of production are operational.
Work closely with performers and directors to ensure artistic vision.
Compliance with strict Health & Safety guidelines.
Managing the day-to-day running of the theatre, including “front of house” duties.

4 GCSE grades at 9-3, including GCSE English and maths; or relevant Level 1 Diploma at minimum Meri, including GCSE English and Maths.
The course is broad and student-centred in its outlook. You will develop a range of music production and composition skills using programmes such as Logik Pro and Abelton. You will also learn how to use our lighting and sound desks within our Platform Theatre to set up exciting and immersive music gigs and theatre performances. You will also learn Adobe design software to create moving image products to enhance the audience experience at gigs and performances.
You will become a working member of the college’s theatre company, Platform Productions. You will become the backbone of the theatre company through the creative design and smooth operation of shows which are open to the public.
Assessment is on-going throughout the course and requires you to complete projects and assignments based on realistic work-place situations. Assessment activities may include; participating in practical workshops, rehearsals, performances, writing essays, giving presentations and discussing work.
This course is a superb foundation for higher level study within the department. Successful students can progress onto our Level 3 Music course; or Level 3 Events Management and Production; or Level 3 Creative Media. You would also have built a broad portfolio of work to consider progressing onto our Level 3 Fine Art, Level 3 Art & Design or Level 3 Digital Art, Animation and Games Design.
In terms of future careers, these are wide and varied: ranging from sound engineering, lighting design & control, costume design, scenic construction, stage & production management, arts administration, VFX and puppetry & props. If you have the production bug there really is no looking back!
UAL Level 2 Diplomas are valued by employers and further education colleges. If you want to get a job straight away you could work in a production job role, for instance as crew for theatres, music venues or any live events venue.

It is essential as a production student that you see as much theatre as you can, therefore we arrange regular trips to the theatres across the county to see a variety of work produced. Termly outings include a range of theatre shows, professional workshops and workplace related activities. Annual trips are organised for students and past trips have included New York, Italy, Paris and London. There are additional fees for these.
