Digital Skills for Work Award

This part time course will give students confidence and a positive attitude towards mathematics. It will also enable students to recognise the importance of maths in their own lives and society. It could also provide a vital stepping stone to Higher Education. You will cover a range of topics for instance general arithmetic, algebra, shape and space and data handling. GCSE Mathematics is offered as a 3 hour lesson once a week for one academic year. Options are available in the day and evening.

Applicants should be working at level 1/2 after an initial assessment has been completed at interview. Those who are not currently working at this level with be encouraged to take a Functional Skills maths course part time first.
You will sit two exams which are externally assessed at the end of the course in May/June. The new exams will be graded from 9 to 1.
Students may go on to one of the Access to HE courses at CCN or many university courses which require GCSE maths at A-C (4/5) grade. Many vocational course also have this requirement.
GCSE mathematics is very useful in getting started in a wide variety of careers.
