Architecture and Interior Design, Diploma Level 3

Students study the UAL Level 3 Applied General Diploma and Extended Diploma in Art and Design over two years. They are designed to provide post-16 students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress into further, higher education and training or employment.
The Extended Diploma are graded at Pass, High Pass, Merit, High Merit or Distinction, with the Distinction grade being worth 168 UCAS points (equivalent to 3 full A Levels at A* grade).
The course provides students the opportunity to explore all aspects Architecture and Interior Design. The course is particularly appropriate for school-leavers who have an interest in 3D Design, the built environment and interior and exterior design. Based in the college’s award winning Creative Arts Building, this course covers a range of essential vocational design skills.
Your lessons will be studio based, with access to our 3D Workshop to develop your hand and 3D skills. You will begin most projects with hands-on art and design-based workshops, with all projects leading towards the creation of a 3D design solution.

Minimum of 4 GCSEs A - C; 9-4 in GCSE English. A-C for GCSE Art and Design or art-related subject. Relevant Level 2 Diploma at minimum Merit, plus GCSE English 9-4. Portfolio of varied, good quality work to be presented at interview.
The Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma has been designed to provide the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to degree-level study in art, design or Architecture, or into employment.
It provides an opportunity for those who have an interest in the visual arts to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding and provides a supportive transition from further to higher education.
The Architecture and Interior Design course encourages your individual creativity and interests, building a portfolio to enable progress to further study at Higher Education. You will also have the chance to work on “live” briefs. Past students have produced designs that address and solve a huge variety of environmental projects, from designing homes for the future through to designing ecologically sustainable toothbrushes!
Architecture and Interior Design at City College Norwich develops your design ideas through a range of media, starting with observational drawing, design and material experimentation. Students will be taught to identify design issues and come up with design solutions; working on live projects that improve and enhance our internal and external environments..
The Level 3 Diploma is assessed through a series of projects that are designed to broaden student’s skills, experience and expertise. The projects are multi-disciplinary and require students to work collaboratively and pro-actively with fellow students as well as external clients and stakeholders. A final end-point assessment (commonly referred to as the Final Major Project) decides the student’s overall grade for the year which is graded at: PASS/MERIT or DISTINCTION.
Successful completion the Level 3 Diploma will provide direct entry onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in the second year. The design and structure of the course allows students the opportunity to further extend their learning through working with local and national clients and Higher Education providers. We always adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to all aspects of our teaching and learning so that our students have a broad portfolio of work and are ready to enter higher level study or careers in the creative industries.
City College Norwich is a member of the University of the Arts London Progression Partnership to promote the recruitment of talented, creative students from high quality further education institutions to UAL higher education degree level courses. The course team also work with local and national higher education providers such as NUA, London College of Communication and Central St Martins to ensure that our students are ready and prepared for their next step. We also work collaboratively with local, national and international artists and creative agencies to provide fantastic experience of work for our students and also to ensure that our courses prepare students well for their future careers in the industry. City College Norwich also has an outstanding Apprenticeship team who can provide advice and guidance for students wishing to follow an Apprenticeship route into the industry. For those students who choose not to pursue careers within the creative industries the course provides fantastic opportunities to develop collaborative working skills, problem-solving, creative and the higher order evaluative skills demanded by universities and employers.

All students will need to provide their own basic equipment, with a list provided during induction. Students pay for enrichment trips and educational visits during the academic year. International trips are optional and are at additional cost payable by the student.
