Beginners Dressmaking Next Steps

This course is the next steps for beginners dressmaking, who would like to learn more about making clothes and follows on from the Beginners Dressmaking Course. The course will enable students to expand their skills and knowledge . The projects will be set based on your experience but may include the following; dressing gown with patch pockets and contrast borders, simple A-line dress with short raglan sleeve, make a simple stretch summer dress or make a blouse with long sleeves set into arm hole, cuffs, simple collar and front opening with button closure. The course will be flexible depending on your progress.
You will also learn how to check and fit patterns to individual figures and making adjustment to commercial patterns to fit you. This could include lengthening or shorting patterns. Patterns will be set by the tutor as all students will make the same garment on this course. Some of the techniques learnt include the following;
- Inserting zips concealed and coil zips
- Adding decorative finishes to necklines/hems
- Making cuffs and applying to sleeves
Materials will be provided for making samples of techniques and projects. You will need to buy patterns and fabric to make garments.
Course details: Tuesdays 21/04/20 - 02/06/20 ( excludes 26/05/20 half-term) 6-9pm
