Beginners Basic Dressmaking

Have you learnt the basics of sewing? Do you feel ready to start making your own clothes and do not know where to start? If the answer is yes.... then this is the course for you. You will get to expand your sewing skills and techniques whilst making your own custom garments from commercial patterns.
The course will cover:
Basics of Dressmaking: tools, how to measure body and choosing the right patterns , commercial sewing patterns, choosing fabric, marking up, laying pattern pieces, and making test garments
Skills and techniques: how to sew darts and shape fabric to fit around body, inserting zips into seams, application of binding, facings for neck and armholes, adding sleeves, hems, adding waistbands, adding buttons, loops, snaps and hooks, elastic and simple decorative finishing techniques.
Sample Garments: During the course you will explore making simple garments and make samples of techniques for future reference, this may include simple top with sleeves, basic skirt, sleeveless shift dress or pyjama trousers.
You will need to buy your fabric, patterns and accessories for each project. Materials will be provided for making samples of techniques.
Course date: Mondays 28/10/19 - 16/12/19 6-9pm
Duration : 8 weeks,
Please bring for your first session, notepad, pencil, basic sewing kit and ring binder with clear pockets.
Either attended the Basic Sewing course or have a basic knowledge of sewing.
